Back in the saddle again

This week saw a particularly productive return to the traditional two-night recording schedule.  Maybe it’s just the Obama in the air, but things are feeling strangely optimistic all around.

As long promised, some pics of the new space:

Danny at the helm. The POV is from the bed. We’d love to tell you about all of the wild times we’ve had with groupies while we were recording, but this would be false. Glen is married, I am happily hooked up, and Danny is a monk. The bed is used primarily for me to doze off on while Danny and Glen talk about VST plugins.

The refreshed Dry Erase Board of Destiny, as laid out by Glen Reid, he of the impeccable penmanship.

Detail of the new board. Once the album is released and recognized as a classic for the ages, you can come back here and puzzle over the titles that didn’t make the final cut.  Bookmark for posterity!

Mrs. November.  Thank you Guitar Player Magazine, for this free calendar, a gift which truly keeps on giving. Sorry we missed out on Mrs. October, due to our hiatus. She had kitty cat ears.

Mrs. October is congratulated on her thighs. Good job!

The Dedicated Tracking Room. Currently its dedication is split between tracking and storing HVAC devices. Also, board games.

Is that the very chair that I used to record the finger-picked arpeggios for “Glass Window Panes”? You bet it is! Bask. Bask!

So there you have it!

Tuesday was used primarily to remix “Do the Sacrilege” and “Deify/Crucify”, using Danny’s latest compressors, mixers, tuners, tweekers, boobers, squeakers and dooders.

Wednesday saw a remixing of “Saffalicis” and “Glorious and Victorious”. It? was then decided that “G & V” could do with a redo of the bass part, so I knocked that out. And then I did guitars for “Glass Window Panes”.

And then the magic truly happened, in the form of Glen and Danny combining their talents to produce a beautiful/hideous chorus of ghosts of dead children for the psychedelic freakout portion of “Glass Window Panes”.

On tap for the future:

- Next week should be guest star week, with Jim James coming over to do some work on “Every Man Alone” and possibly more,  and Tom Blankenship doing “Every Man Alone” and more importantly “Devourer of Worlds”, a bass-only bass-off between Tom and Brent, sure to sweep the Bass Player Magazine awards at the end of 2010.

- Following guest star week, we’ve got a whole slew of vocals to work on.

Things are going well. Stayed tuned for world domination.
